Common complaints

Recognize your situation here? These are the patterns tourists report again and again. Knowing the playbook helps you document your own case — and shows you're not alone.

Vacation-package complaints

  1. 1. Company refused to acknowledge the consumer's right to cancel within 5 days for no specific reason.
  2. 2. Consumer couldn't book the "free cruise" incentive within what they felt was a reasonable window (6 months).
  3. 3. Consumer was promised access to 5-star resorts but found mostly lower-quality resorts on the package website.
  4. 4. Available weeks at 5-star resorts required buying an "all inclusive" meal plan costing over $80 per person per day.
  5. 5. Consumer was told they had no right to a 5-day cooling-off period and that their money was "non-refundable."
  6. 6. After getting home, the consumer received package materials with Terms and Conditions never previously disclosed.

Timeshare complaints

  1. 1. Salespeople had the consumer sign a waiver of their 5-day rights — which cannot legally be waived.
  2. 2. Consumer was told they must give up their 5-day rights (because it's a "resale," etc.), then later made to initial a form acknowledging those rights — a charade to make the paperwork look clean. The consumer is never given a copy of what they signed.
  3. 3. Consumer was told they could easily rent out their weeks to pay off the purchase and even profit. One woman was told she could rent her weeks for enough to pay for her college education.
  4. 4. Consumer bought a new timeshare after being told they could sell their existing one for a substantial amount — an appraisal the consumer now says was grossly inflated by the salespeople.
